Green Deal – What Is It?
The Green Deal is a government backed initiative that can help you understand the energy-saving improvements you can make to your home. It can also help you find companies to carry out the work, and give you access to a number of options for free and paid home improvements, including ECO grants and Green Deal finance.
The first step in getting improvements through ECO and the Green Deal will usually be to get a Green Deal Assessment.
Why Should I Apply?
Providing they qualify for Green Deal, South West residents could be eligible for a range of free home-improving insulation measures or a free replacement boiler. These measures can be worth hundreds or even thousands of pounds. Plus, they make our homes warmer and cheaper to heat and can save between £100-£200 per year in heating bills.
Am I Eligible for free loft insulation and a boiler?
Residents need to live in certain areas deemed to be in need of financial help or be on certain benefits to access a free grant from the Green Deal. South West residents including homeowners, tenants and landlords (on behalf of tenants) can apply for Green Deal grants.
Where does the money for Green Deal come from?
Money for free loft insulation and free boilers comes from the Government, who in turn get it from the Climate Change Levy (CCL). The CCL is a tax on businesses, to encourage them to become more energy efficient and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Money from this tax is then used by the Government to make homes more energy-efficient.
